IBSA Reforms and Governance
The year 2024 has been a turning point for IBSA. One of the most crucial steps was the clear separation of governance and operational management. For years, this issue had been overlooked, leading to conflicts of interest. Today, IBSA has a professional administration that is already delivering tangible results.
Financial Reform and Sustainable Growth
One of the key priorities has been improving financial oversight. A thorough financial analysis of 2022–2023 was conducted, forming the foundation for professional accounting practices. Additionally, the IBSA Board recently approved a reform of the per capita and licensing fee structure—an essential step towards financial stability.
The 2024 Paralympics: Success and Inspiration
One of the year’s biggest highlights was the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. IBSA athletes showcased incredible resilience and determination, performing in front of packed stadiums. For me and my team, a particularly special moment was participating in the medal ceremonies for blind athletes in athletics and swimming.
Comprehensive Review of IBSA’s Activities
In 2024, IBSA launched an in-depth review of all its activities. The findings will shape the next phase of reforms, ensuring flexibility and forward-thinking decision-making. IBSA Board meetings have become a routine part of our governance, enabling timely and transparent decision-making.
At the same time, our collaboration with IPC on classification improvements has gained momentum, anti-doping measures have been strengthened, and new leadership has been confirmed for the next Paralympic cycle.
Plans for 2025
Expanding Sporting Events
IBSA aims to increase the number of competitions, reaching new regions and countries. A particular focus will be on athletics and swimming for blind athletes, ensuring more opportunities for international newcomers.
Modernizing Rules and Digital Strategy
Competition rules will be regularly updated. A stronger emphasis will be placed on IBSA’s presence in social media, press, and advertising, paving the way for future sponsorship opportunities.
Financial Audit and Reforms
For the first time in many years, an independent audit will be conducted on IBSA’s 2024 financial accounts. This will help identify potential risks and enhance financial management.
IBSA World Games 2027
I am proud to confirm that Tashkent has been chosen as the “preferred host city” for the IBSA World Games 2027. This decision underscores our commitment to expanding sporting opportunities worldwide.
Conclusion
The year 2024 has been challenging but filled with significant achievements and reforms. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has contributed to IBSA’s progress. The future holds major changes that will strengthen IBSA and make sports more accessible for all.
Wishing you and your families a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year!
Best regards,
Ilgar Rahimov, IBSA President
