The 2024 World Para Swimming Open Water World Cup took place on September 21st in the breathtaking La Cinta Bay, San Teodoro, Sardinia, Italy. The stunning Mediterranean waters set the stage for eight top S14 athletes—four men and four women—competing at the highest level after the excitement of Paris.

Notable swimmers included Nicholas Bennett (Canada), Nader Khalili (Finland), Kevin Casali (Italy), Marina Pettinella (Italy), Jessica-Jane Applegate (Great Britain), Siena Oxley (Great Britain), Alejandro Meneses Medero (Spain), and two-time Swedish champion Pernilla Lindberg.

The day before the race, athletes trained in the Mediterranean, enjoying the sight of rays and fish beneath them— a refreshing change from pool lanes. For some, it was their first time racing in the sea, while others were already seasoned in open water competitions.

Pernilla Lindberg, a dominant force in open water swimming, defended her title after winning in 2023. With her signature determination, she finished first in the female S14 category, adding another milestone to her remarkable career.
